For the moment, the New York Yankees are saying they don't expect shortstop Derek Jeter to go on the disabled list with a quad injury. But Joe Girardi wasn't exactly shrugging off the injury either, saying, "We're keeping our fingers crossed" that he won't be sidelined for more than a week.

If it were longer, who knows? As you know, wrote John Harper of the New York Daily News, Alex Rodriguez was once a pretty fair shortstop. For a variety of reasons, it seems highly unlikely the Yankees would move Rodriguez back to shortstop barring a season-ending injury to Jeter, yet the shocker of the night was that Girardi didn't dismiss the notion when someone asked the inevitable A-Rod question. What does a bad April look like? Does it necessarily have to include a spot in last place? Does it have to include a roster full of sleepers who never woke-up?

It could, but I think a bad fantasy April consists of great players playing awfully thanks to a combination of unforeseen ineffectiveness topped by injury in a 10-team mixed format. And that is exactly what won Fake Team's Worst Fantasy Season So Far Contest.

Look at what picking first in a 10-team mixed league gets you? This was da' bomb post-draft. Then Curtis Granderson breaks his hand. Yovanni Gallardo may have already been on the D.L., but it was for a minor knee surgery, and he made it back right on time - only to tear his ACL and be lost for the year.

With Troy Tulowitzki out for two months and Alex Rodriguez on the D.L. to end the month, this team would be struggling with significant downgrades at SS and 3B anyhow. But with Jorge Posada on the D.L., and John SMmolts' self-assigned bullpen role, the month couldn't be much worse.  read more »

For years, Phillies fans have bludgeoned the Phillies ownership, fairly or unfairly, for not committing the kind of money that teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Mets now pour into their payrolls. Canadian high school hitter Brett Lawrie has been on fire as the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft approaches on June 5. He recently hit .486 (17-for-35) on Team Canada's national junior team's spring tour in the Dominican Republic, while playing against Major League Baseball Dominican Summer League teams. Lawrie had eight homers and 24 RBIs in total and was the talk of the baseball draft world after hitting five home runs in one day during a doubleheader last week.
