Fantasy roundtable

BY ADAM RONIS I recently joined a fantasy roundtable with other fantasy baseball websites. Eric Stashin at Rotoprofessor.com provided the question this week, which was to rank outfielders Corey Hart, Hunter Pence, and Nick Markakis. Adam Ronis - Newsday.com This is an interesting question and I like all three. I really dont see where you can go wrong. Its like choosing between Halle Berry, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian. There is no bad choice. I own all three this season. But we have to arrange an order, so here goes. Hart was given the opportunity to play everyday last season and he took advantage hitting .295 with 24 home runs, 81 RBIs, 23 steals, 33 doubles and nine triples. He is 6-foot-6 and has good power.  read more »

Fantasy Fleeces: Wheelin and Dealin!

It’s been a while, but we have some fantasy deals to take a look at, all courtesy of acewpk , who has apparently been very active trading in his fantasy league. And we love that!  read more »

Draft Guide: Second Base

Second base, long considered one of the two most shallow fantasy positions (along with catcher), will be the subject of the third of our baseball draft guides.

The first issue to keep in mind with second baseman is that you're probably only going to be carrying one of them on your roster, except in the most esoteric formats. There may be a useful multi-positional player who you keep around to eat up spare days, but for most leagues, this isn't going to be a position you stock up on. Even in set-ups that call for a middle infielder, due to the overall depth at SS this year, it's unlikely you're going to want to have on your roster multiple 2Bs. There's also approximately zero chance that you will want to play a second baseman in your UTIL spot. Finally, except for the top five or six selections, there isn't much deviation from the mean amongst second baseman. With a limited number of enticing mid- or late-round talents who might realistically hit 20+ home runs or steal 25+ bases, you're basically combing through chaff and trying to find a hint of wheat.  read more »

Baseball Analysts 2008 NL Central Preview

Due to a series of unforeseeable circumstances, we are going to break from our Two on Two format and simply go around the room with three of us. Al from Bleed Cubbie Blue has joined Marc Hulet and me. You can find the previous Two on Two's below: AL Central AL West NL West Sully: Well guys, what do we think about the NL Central in 2008. Just like the American League Central, which pits Cleveland and Detroit as the only two teams one can really see winning it, in the NL Central we have Chicago and Milwaukee. I don't see Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Houston or even the consistently competitive St. Louis Cardinals mustering much of a threat to the Cubbies or the Brew Crew. Al: This is the first time in a while that the Cubs go into the season as, legitimately, the favorite to win their division.  read more »

Fantasy Errata

Welcome to the first of our 2008 Fantasy Errata series, a daily collection of goings-on in the world of fantasy baseball. Since there's one game today, you can enjoy our column quite a bit earlier than you'll normally see it.

-- I drafted in my two money leagues this weekend, and thankfully I didn't end up with Adrian Beltre in either of them (though I was tempted at numerous times). Then I read this:  read more »

Brian Roberts Rumors

Ah, Brian Roberts.  The Cubs' talks with the Orioles have stagnated, though the O's still watched a slimmed-down Sean Gallagher on Sunday.  Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times still thinks it gets done by Opening Day.   read more »

Is Brian Roberts On the Move?

Brian Roberts is one of the best infielders in Major League baseball. There are not many second baseman that can offer fantasy owners a .290 average, 12 homeruns, 100-plus runs, and 50 stolen bases, but Brian Roberts fits the mold. It is being reported by Sports Illustrated that trade talks are heating up between the Cubs and Orioles. If a deal were to be made, Sean Marshall would likely be involved....

Brian Roberts to Cubs Rumor Heating Up

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated is reporting that discussions between the Cubs and Orioles involving 2nd baseman Brian Roberts “were starting to get serious.” Heyman writes that one of the trade proposals being debated includes Orioles outfielder Jay Payton along with Roberts. Throwing Payton in the trade would presumably act as a salary dump by the O’s as Payton is owed $5 million next year and has seen his offensive production decrease dramatically over the years. Payton hit .256 with seven homers and 58 RBIs in 2007.  read more »
